We’re a friendly bunch here at thinkWhere.
Alan is thinkWhere’s Chief Executive and has over 30 years working in the GIS and mapping industry.
Alan has overall responsibility for the strategy, development and commercial operation of the Company and is on our Board of Directors. He is passionate about the opportunities to use GIS and spatial insight to solve real world problems.
In his spare time Alan is a keen cyclist and has a strong interest in archaeology.
With over 2 decades experience in Software Development, and over 15 years working with GIS applications, Alastair works across all aspects of software product development, systems design and maintenance.
Outside work, Alastair enjoys music, reading, exercise, beer and relaxing.
Ali started her journey with us in 2006 as a Senior GIS Analyst, primarily with technical project management responsibilities.
In her current role as Account Manager, Ali works closely with our customers, managing and monitoring contract delivery while looking to maintain and proactively develop our customer relationships. Ali’s interests include singing, hill walking and swimming, and has been known to bust some impressive moves on the Zumba dancefloor.
Catherine has been with the company since 2012, and has fulfilled a number of roles in the GIS industry.
Catherine manages the Services Team who provide professional GIS Consultancy, Training and Support services to our customers.
Catherine is a busy Mum and hails from New Zealand.
Colin has over 20 years of experience in the GIS industry across all aspects of GIS since his first job digitizing OS LandLine mapping for Ordnance Survey’s Rural Revision programme. Colin provides the lead on technical projects for developing GIS applications, with a focus on managing our OpenSource cloud infrastructure. Colin also runs our Postgres administration training course.
Dave is our Portfolio Manager and works closely with the whole thinkWhere team bridging strategy into delivery for our current and future products.
Dave is also a volunteer for the humanitarian mapping charity MapAction – thinkWhere’s charity of choice !
Duncan is one of our thinkWhere GIS Consultants.
Duncan’s job within thinkWhere varies from delivering customer support to working on specific GIS projects.
Duncan says “Of all the staff I’m probably the one most likely to stand out, once being described as looking like a cross between a hipster and a pro-skateboarder. When not trying to convince you that GIS is cool, I can be found podcasting, running and adding to my expanding collection of tattoos (I’m running out of space).”
After working with Global Investment Companies for over 2 decades, Elaine took up a new challenge, and joined thinkWhere in the summer of 2016.
Elaine provides the business support activities involved in running the company including administrative services to support the activities of the team as a whole.
With a young daughter to keep her on her toes, Elaine likes to live life to the full and enjoys gym classes, travelling and appreciates life.
Business Development Manager
Fiona has nearly 30 years’ experience in the cartographic / GIS industry, and has fulfilled a number of roles since joining the company in 2003.
As our Business Development Manager, Fiona co-ordinates the company’s Sales and Marketing activities.
Outside work, and with an artistic background, Fiona enjoys a broad range of creative hobbies including upcycling, design, crafting, photography and music.
Iain has 20 years experience in building web and cloud applications.
Having worked in telecoms, travel, games, digital design, Iain is now enjoying applying his skills, knowledge and experience in the world of GIS.
Iain loves Python, pragmatism and writing awesome software.
And in his spare time?…an amateur level juggler (of course) and pianist.
Ian is a software developer at thinkWhere and has a love for designing and building geospatial web applications using a variety of technologies including AngularJS, Openlayers, Geoserver, Python and PostGIS.
Ian is also an Agile Scrum Master, which “gives me a great opportunity to help improve the software development process here at thinkWhere”. Outside of work Ian loves spending time with his young family, home-brewing, cycling and tinkering with his many bicycles.
Senior Software Developer
John is an applied volcanology and geoscience researcher and teacher turned thinkWhere OpenSource GIS software developer.
John describes his work as “Writing code to crunch data on maps”.
John’s credentials include : Royal Society of Edinburgh Research Fellow, Postdoctoral Research Associate and Postdoctoral Researcher.
With degrees in GIS and software development, Linda is the perfect fit for the role of thinkWhere Developer!
When not coding or designing interfaces, Linda likes the great outdoors – exploring Scotland and places further afield.
When at home, Linda enjoys the challenge of growing plants.
Senior GIS Developer
Matt has gained experience providing GIS solutions across a range of industries including mining, local government and environmental sectors.
He has made several open source contributions including the popular Zoom-to-Postcode QGIS plugin. When Matt isn’t at his desk you can find him on two wheels or catching waves on the Scottish coast.
Megan works closely with Elaine providing the business support activities involved in running the company including administrative services to support the activities of the team as a whole.
In her spare time, Megan enjoys spending quality time with her young family and is a former air hostess and Scottish Showjumping Champion !
Nadia joined our Services team in May 2017 following 4 years fulfilling a number of GIS roles at Virgin Media (latterly as GIS Coordinator).
Prior to Virgin Media, Nadiia worked in Ukraine for Intetics – a company who specialise in software product development, IT support, quality assurance and data processing.
Senior Solutions Consultant
Working in our busy Services Team, QGIS guru Neil works on a variety of exciting customer projects and provides support to customers via our Servicedesk.
In addition, Neil is one of our thinkWhere training advisers, delivering a range of educational, informative and highly interesting training courses in OpenSource technologies such as QGIS.
When he’s not evangelising about QGIS, in his spare time Neil enjoys travel, politics, music and cruising the countryside in his Harley Davidson !
GIS Consultant (Data)
A member of the Services team at thinkWhere, the majority of Neil’s time is spent managing the background mapping and third party data we provide through our hosted services and online applications.
Neil also provides customer support on everything from desktop GIS to our own bespoke systems.
Neil has had a fascination for maps from an early age which may have had some influence on his choice of career!
Steph started with us over 12 years ago as a GIS Support Officer and is now one of our Account Managers.
Steph’s current role involves engaging with thinkWhere customers ensuring contracts are effectively delivered and supporting their business GIS needs.
Outside work Steph can be found trying to keep up with her young children, playing & listening to music, working with fabrics and, when permitted, perhaps relaxing with a glass of wine!
Software Test Analyst
Zlata is our software test analyst – ensuring thinkWhere software solutions are robust and of the highest quality using a number of processes and automated tests.
Zlata has a GIS MSc from University of Aberdeen and Geography BA from University of Strathclyde.
In her spare time Zlata enjoys cycling and hiking.
